The Department of Employment (DOE) Thailand is providing temporary leniency to employers adapting to the newly launched e-WorkPermit system, allowing them to submit paper work permit applications for foreign workers until January 28, 2026.
Background
The e-WorkPermit Thailand system, effective from October 3, 2025, aims to streamline work permit applications for foreign workers. However, employers have reported technical issues and unfamiliarity with the new platform.
To ensure a smooth transition, the DOE has introduced temporary measures to minimize disruption for employers managing MOU-based migrant workers, skilled foreign workers, and work permit renewals.
Temporary Measures
- MOU-based migrant workers: Employers who submitted applications to the local Employment Office before October 13, 2025, can continue under the previous paper-based system until completion. There is no need to switch to the e-WorkPermit system for ongoing applications.
- Skilled or expert foreign workers (Section 60, paragraph 2): Employers with applications submitted before October 13, 2025, may also continue under the previous system.
- Work permit renewals: Employers whose foreign workers’ permits expire by February 13, 2026, can continue using the existing system (mworkpermit.doe.go.th). Employers who have not yet submitted renewal applications must apply through the e-WorkPermit platform (eworkpermit.doe.go.th)
Reporting Issues
Employers experiencing issues with the e-WorkPermit system Thailand are advised to:
- Take screenshots of any errors
- Attach relevant supporting documents
- Submit applications through the previous paper-based process at their provincial Employment Office or Bangkok Employment Offices (Areas 1–10)
This option will remain available until January 28, 2026, helping employers transition smoothly to the e-WorkPermit system.
Key Takeaways
- Utilize this grace period to familiarize with the e-WorkPermit system
- Ensure timely submission of work permit applications for foreign workers
- Minimize disruptions in compliance while adapting to Thailand’s new digital platform
